Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth (enamel) that develop into holes. Cavities, also called tooth decay or caries are caused by a combination of factors, including bacteria in the mouth (plaque), frequent snacking and not cleaning your teeth properly.

The dentist removes the caries and prepares the tooth, you can choose to have an local anaesthetic to prevent you from feeling any pain. With the aid of rubberdam the dentist fills the tooth with a composite filling material, he fills it in layers that eventually fill the cavity completely and then polishes the white filling.
